The target audiences are conventionally very vast, although each soap opera cater more for a specific

class, age or region. Hollyoaks: More catered for younger audiences. Emmerdale: More rural setting attracts a stereotypically older, more rural audience. Eastenders: Eastenders is catered much more for the working class.

Each main terrestrial Channel has their own famous soap opera: BBC1 (Eastenders), ITV1 (Coronation Street), Channel 4 (Hollyoaks)

Typical settings found within soap operas are important for creating a very memorable and show while the audience will become familiar with each place through the variety of storylines using these places. They include: The pub - The Queen Victoria (Eastenders), The Woolpack (Emmerdale) The Caf Different characters houses The street itself as an exterior setting Parks Local businesses The Corner Shop Amongst others.

There are profiles of characters conventional with soap operas in order to create drama for the audiences to watch, these include: The ultimate power couple The underdog The super villain The girl next door The wayward youth The rebel The pregnant teen The straight laced good guy Amongst others, a variety of characters helps to draw in and interest a large audience.

All follow similar themes and storylines, for example: money, family, relationships and feuds between certain characters are rife, stereotypical storylines include
Pregnancy Money Problems Crime (Drugs, Violence, Theft, Anti-Social Behaviour and even Murder.) Affairs & Love Triangles. Amongst others.
