My own answer to loving ponytail holders that tie and scrunchies.

This evolved from the two concepts melding into one created piece of
crocheted goodness!
The twirls could go all the way up or be in different colors to match
school/team colors etc I would guess the possibilities are endless.
The name? Well it comes from my habit of saying "hair thingy" instead
of scrunchi.

Hair Thingy

What you will need:


Somewhere around an ounce of yarn, I used Red Heart Super Saver in
color: 0319 Cherry Red for the one in picture but any yarn SHOULD do
as I have made it before with just scraps of whatever I had around.

H Hook (adjust to yarn of course if you should use different type of yarn)

elastic band for ponytails

Pattern convention used: US


sc (single crochet)
ch (chain)
sl st (slip stitch)
dc (double crochet)

Round 1 Attach yarn and sc around the entire elastic band, sl st to


first sc do NOT turn

Round 2 ch 2 , 3 dc same stitch , *ch 1, 4 dc in front loop of next


sc repeat from * around; fasten off.

Round 3 (attach yarn to Back loop of sc in Round 1) ch 2 , 3 dc same


stitch , *ch 1, 4 dc in front loop of next sc repeat from * around;
end with sl st in ch2.
Twisty Thingies: Chain 43 3dc in 3rd ch from hook, 4dc in next ch, 4dc
in next , 5dc in next ch, 5dc in next ch, 6dc in next ch, hdc in
next ch, sl st in remaining chs.
From last sl st ch43 3dc in 3rd ch from hook, 4dc in next ch, 4dc in
next , 5dc in next ch, 5dc in next ch, 6dc in next ch, hdc in next
ch, sl st in remaining chs, fasten off weave in ends.
