Workshop 1
Why Elder Abuse Eludes Health Care Providers
Since many victims of elder abuse are isolated, health care professionals may be the only
people in a victim’s life who have the opportunity to recognize the abuse and offer help.
This session will explore how to identify elder abuse in the hospital, home care and nursing
home/rehab setting and ways to enhance early identification and intervention.

elder mistreatment victims.

Proving the Case: Daily Money Management Ground-Breaking
Research and Policy Implications
The Brookdale Center on Healthy Aging and Longevity has developed a state-of-the-art
scientific assessment of the value of Daily Money Management (DMM) Programs through
evidence based research. This session will give an in-depth analysis of the Brookdale
DMM research findings regarding the individual and community benefits of DMM Programs
in New York City and their public policy implications.

Cross Cultural Perspectives on Intervention Models
This workshop will present cross cultural perspectives on elder abuse. Topics will include
descriptions of the use of a cognitive analytical therapy model and setting up systems across
a community/hospital interface from the United Kingdom as well as addressing elder abuse
in New York City’s Chinatown.

This workshop will educate attendees about the stages of dementia and the increased

services and legal perspective.

abuse offenders.
