DC Water will hold an open house at McKinley Technology High School to share information and receive comments on the proposed Northeast Boundary Tunnel project. Stop by any time between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to see displays on the project. DC Clean Rivers Project staff will be available to answer questions.

WHEN:
October 17, 2013 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

A 30-minute presentation will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting will also include a formal presentation that will occur in the McKinley Technology High School auditorium located near the main entrance. The presentation will be approximately 30 minutes in length and will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. An open house will follow the formal presentation.

Public Comment Period

A public comment period will be in effect until November 15, 2013. During the comment period, the public is invited to identify any issues or concerns they might have with the proposed project so DC Water can appropriately consider them in the Environmental Assessment. Comments received after November 15th will be accepted; however, DC Water cannot guarantee that these comments will be incorporated into the Environmental Assessment. About the Northeast Boundary Tunnel

DC Water is preparing an Environmental Assessment to evaluate potential environmental impacts of the proposed Northeast Boundary Tunnel project. The Northeast Boundary Tunnel is a component of the Anacostia River Projects. This is the portion of the DC Clean Rivers Project designed to: Provide long-term relief from flood events and sewer backups in northeast DC Control combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to reduce nutrient discharges to the Anacostia River. The Northeast Boundary Tunnel would be approximately 5 miles long, 23 feet in diameter, and located between 40 and160 feet below ground. Along the tunnel, diversion sewers and drop shafts would be constructed near existing sewers to divert CSOs to the tunnel when system capacity is exceeded. CSOs captured by the Northeast Boundary Tunnel would be conveyed to the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant.
