WHY IS JESUS CHRIST KING?
Today is the last Sunday of the liturgical year which is dedicated to Jesus Christ, the King of the universe. He is different from an earthly king in many ways for His kingdom does not belong to this world but will remain forever. We celebrate His kingship of love, justice, peace, joy and all goodness. Humanly speaking, a king is someone who is best in certain areas of life: sports, music, comedy, drama or some other aspects of life. Or one is King because he is an heir to the throne. Jesus Christ is king because He is the best in everything. He is above all and the noblest human being who ever lived. Jesus Christ is not only king to the Christians, but He is King of all people, even those who do not believe in Him. He is King of heaven and earth. He is the King who, according to St. Paul, is the image of the invisible God, the Son of God, redeemer of mankind. Jesus Christ is King for what He is, and for what He has done for us. He is the King who gave all for the salvation of His people. "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13).

National Needs
This weekend has been designated for the 2013 Collection for National Needs. This collection supports the Catholic Home Missions, Black and Indian Missions, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic University of America. Special envelopes are available in the pews.
