form of a written res onse! "or starters# the title set the tone for my attit$de towards this article before even reading it! Within two ages of this reading I fo$nd myself aggravated# and by age fo$r I fo$nd myself e%tremely $ set! The eight& age article is filled with a negative attit$de towards vol$nteering overseas# artic$larly in 'e%ico! I felt as tho$gh Illitch was $tting down everything we did as a Global Brigade ( at one oint in the article I felt self&conscio$s as if I had done something wrong and was being yelled at! Illitch says that o$r do gooding )in a foreign co$ntry* is less relevant than in an +merican ghetto# im lying that the time we s ent re aring for Ghana# in Ghana# is irrelevant! It means nothings! ,ada! I am so dee ly h$rt and offended reading this article! "or starters# yo$ cannot hel someone who does not wish to hel himself or herself! The Techiman comm$nity a lied for a brigade to come to them# they wanted hel ! They were e%cited for $s# listened to $s# and want $s to come bac-! They were re ared for $s# and we were re ared for them! Illitch also addresses comm$nication ( saying that o$r im act )in a foreign co$ntry* is not as vast as we believe beca$se we can only comm$nicate with those who can s ea- o$r lang$age! .very one who went to Ghana this ast +$g$st made an effort to learn some of the Ghanaian lang$age! I did not e% ect eo le to try to comm$nicate with me as m$ch as they did! We had translators# and with their hel were able to have f$ll conversations with eo le even tho$gh there was a lang$age barrier! I did not choose to $t my res onse to Illitch/s article in my Prezi beca$se I en0oyed ondering the 1$estion as-ed of $s for this reflection and connecting it to both articles by 'orton# I co$ld not connect Illitch/s reading with my ersonal reflection on service! He does not val$e service or view it in the same light as I do! The idea of service does indeed involve ower#

I believe it is good to be aware that not everyone is able to do service tri s in a foreign co$ntry! I -now that not one member of my brigade went to Ghana e% ecting to $sh the +merican dream on any one! ,ot all forms of service are a right fit for everyone2 I believe the ty e of service varies by erson!
