Recent floods hitting East Coast States in Malaysia have been causing tremendous losses. In the state of Terengganu, livestock farmers have suffered losses amounting to more than RM2.4 million, with 700-odd livestock farmers being affected in the state. In addition to this, floodwaters have also caused 856 farmers to lose crops worth RM4.7 million cultivated on 317 hectares of land. Crops affected include paddy, vegetables, fruits trees, and cash crops such as corn, tapioca, mushrooms and sweet potatoes. Source: Bernama The government of Malaysia has proposed to set up an agro-politan agriculture university to emphasise on agriculture development in the country. Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had said that reestablishing an agricultural institution was the best to carry out research and development on the latest technology to boost agriculture in the country. Source: Bernama Ethiopias Agriculture Investment and Land Administration Agency said that 3.6 million hectares of arable land has been provided for investors to engage in the agriculture sector. These lands have been allocated for the cultivation of cotton, palm, and sugar cane. Additional incentives were also being offered for more investors to engage in coffee plantations, with special emphasis on investors able to channel modern technologies to improve Ethiopias coffee production and productivity.
