February 13, 2014 Camp Floyd State Park Research Internship

Camp Floyd / Stagecoach Inn State Park and Museum is located in the town of Fairfield, 22 miles southwest of Lehi on State Highway 73. Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State. The troops were sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion, which never took place. The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War. Today, Camp Floyd State Park features a small museum, Stagecoach Inn historic building, Fairfield Scoolhouse, and Camp Floyd Cemetery. Camp Floyd is open all year and hosts numerous field trips, scout camps, civil war encampments, and more. Internship Description: Camp Floyd is seeking a student to assist in research for a new exhibit outlining the soldiers journey from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to Camp Floyd. Along the way, the soldiers encountered Mormon settlers and their interaction is commonly called The Utah War. The intern will research and write a timeline of the soldiers route to Camp Floyd citing their resources. Any questions can be sent to Megan Keller at MeganKeller@utah.gov.

Responsibilities: Intern will work with curator to research and write exhibit text for a new exhibit titled Soldiers Journey to Camp Floyd. Camp Floyd can provide experience in a wide range of museum activities including curation, administration, and education, based on the interns interest. Minimum of 50 hours required to be completed by March 28th. We can allow a majority of the hours to be completed at home due to the distance of Camp Floyd. Internship will be filled as soon as possible. This internship is unpaid, but we can provide you with college credit if applicable.
