Clark E. Copenhaver Sr.

FORT MILL, S.C. - Clark Edward Copenhaver Sr., 83, of Fort Mill, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Piedmont Medical Center. Born Feb. 8, 1920, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late John Jacob and Irene Estelle Kerin Copenhaver. He was the owner of White Oak Bowling Lanes in Silver Spring, Md., retiring in 1980. Before that, he was manager of Southside Bowl in Hagerstown and worked at Valley Lanes in Harrisonburg, Va. He won the first pro tour for duckpin bowling in 1963. He also worked as a starter at Regent Park Golf Course in Fort Mill until his death. He served with the 775th Railway Grand Division in the Philippines during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star. He is survived by his wife, Paula Mae Copenhaver; one daughter, Jo Ann Kline of Clear Spring; one son, Clark E. Copenhaver Jr. of Fort Mill; three stepsons, Carl Suter of Fort Mill, Jeff Suter of Severn, Md., and Mike Suter of Harrisonburg; one brother, Herbert Copenhaver Sr. of New Market, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
