759th ROB Bill Bording -Obit

Bill Bording, a 43-year resident of Saratoga, died Dec. 7 following a brief illness. He was
78.

A lifetime specialist in transportation, Bording joined the Army's 759th Railway


Operating Battalion during World War II, earning six stars for campaigns in North
Africa and Europe and two personal citations.

After the war, he went to work for Consolidated Freightways Inc. in Oakland, then
moved to San Jose to supervise the construction of the company's new terminal on
Commercial Avenue. In 1955, he joined W.D. Wall Traffic Service.

When Wall sold the company in 1979, Bording became a consultant and later was an
expert witness at hearings conducted by the Interstate Commerce Commission and the
California Public Utilities Commission.

Bording had met his wife, Gloria, at a Winnemucca dance in 1941. While he was in the
Army, she served in the Navy Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service. They
corresponded throughout the war and were married in December 1945.

The Bordings had six children. Son David died in 1993. Bording is survived by daughters
Loma of Anchorage and Brinka of Saratoga; sons William of San Jose, Matthew of Santa
Cruz and Benjamin of Saratoga; and grandsons James, David and Eric Bording.

Services have been held, with inurnment in the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
