Location Scouting

Location: Little Waltham Park

Brook Hill
Little Waltham
Chelmsford
Essex
Scene one, scene seven, scene nine, scene ten and scene
twelve.
We chose to
use this
Establishing
shot to
ensure that
the audience
is aware of
where the
action is
about to take
place. By showing the establishing shot
the audience is able to see the rest of
the location, which will reveal a
children’s playground. This highlights
the innocence of the protagonist. It also
shows the contrast between becoming
an older person and more aware of the
world, and the naivety of youth through
the playground.

The playground also has a very good swing which is the main
symbol of our film. The swing is simple yet effective as it is a classic
swing and is very generic. People automatically imagine this type of
swing when they think about swings.

The small amount of forestry on the other side of the park is very
good for the mysterious approach to the scene that we want to
create. It adds an element of the unknown. The forest has plenty of
good mise-en-scene creating the cold and rough feeling that we
ultimately want to get.

Location: 6 Constance
Close
Broomfield
Chelmsford
Essex
Scene two and scene
three
This location was a selected as the mise-en scene is very good. It
really dictates a good normal house where two people are living. It
emphasises the natural and normal location that is holding a normal
argument between the couple but leads to a not so normal
outcome. The natural and normal environment at this location is a
good contrast between the dark and mysterious park and woodland
and the light and airy house.

The lighting in the house is very good as the windows have lots of
natural light that highlights the protagonist. This shows the
audience the innocence and will create a better atmosphere for the
film as a whole.

Location: Nurses Staff room

Chelmer Valley High School
Court Road
Broomfield
Chelmsford
Essex
Scene four and scene five

We chose to
use this
staff room
for these
scenes as
again the
mise-en-
scene is
really good
for the
image that
we want to portray to the target audience.

It makes the scene look exactly like a staff

room in which nurses would be sitting and
discussing patients during their breaks.

There is a roof window which provides a

good amount of lighting and creates
highlights which will emphasise the
importance of the characters talking, in
order to make the audience listen to what they are saying. The
contrast between the light and dark will ensure that the audience is
focused on the two nurses talking however they still have an idea of
the setting that they are in and what is going on.
Location: Broomfield Hospital
Broomfield
Chelmsford
Essex
Scene six and scene eight

We chose this location as it

had many trees and lots of
vegetation to make the scenes more mysterious and give the
audience an uneasy feel, which is ultimately the feeling we want the
audience to get against the antagonist.

The lighting is also good in these woods as on a dark day it will

make the place seem very mysterious. The trees will make good
shadows to create the darkness and create a very uneasy
atmosphere.
The lack of leaves on the trees makes it look rugged and raw which
will reflect the image we want to portray of the antagonist. There is
lots of vegetation on the floor which will add interest to the low
angle shot of the protagonist running through the woods. It enables
the audience to become suspicious as everything will not be clear.
