DISCRIMINATION

IS HAPPENING IN HOUSTON
WWW.HOUEQUALITY.COM
The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance was passed by Houston City Council on May 28, 2014. The ordinance
provides protection from discrimination in housing, employment and public accomodations and
covers 15 protected characteristics, including: sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age,
familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic
information, gender identity, and pregnancy.
Since May 28, 2014, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance has NOT been in effect as a result of
attempts to repeal the law by opponents.
Cases of discrimination have been reported to the City of Houstons Office of the Inspector General.
These reports were made by people who were informed enough to contact the OIGs office, but
consider all of the cases that have gone unreported.
