What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

Distribution of Film
We want our film to be commercially produced which means it would be put on a
‘general release’ and put on DVD and distributed into smaller cinemas around the
country for small art houses for indie films such as my film. However copies would then
be released and available online such as iTunes, and be available in major stores for trial
periods such as :

My film will mainly be distributed on the internet and art houses across the country,
this is because I do not feel that my film had a high enough budget to feature in
cinemas such as Odeon or Cineworld. By promoting my film to art houses and across
the internet I think that I will be more likely to succeed, than aiming to high. Another
reason behind this is because my film is only aimed mainly towards 15 year olds I think
that there will be a highly limited amount of people that will spend money to come
and see it as most films have a large range for a target audience but due to constraints
that we had we could only make a film to this level, however if we was to finish our
film with a higher budget we could have higher distributors such as blockbusters and
hmv.
Exhibition of Film
These images represent the main UK cinema’s that our film would be
shown in if we was to release our film commercially through the
mainstream market scheme:

Type of production Company:

Due to the fact that our film is British it would be more
than likely distributed by a British product company such
as Film4. A popular film that has been shown through
film4 is Slumdog Millionaire. This is a good example,
mainly because if we was to release our film, we would
want it to be shown the same as this film. Film4 would be
a good choice to show our film, mainly because this
channel aim to show popular British made films, and a
large number of horror films.
Type of Film
Although Art houses are a great way to get indie films into the public eye, I will also be considering
producing our film through mainstream methods. Through our film we convey a symbolic message
of fear amongst all types of school students, so that they can relate to the ‘what if’ scenarios if it
was to happen to them. If our film was to be product commercially through the public eye we would
be able to target a larger target audience, and be more successful .

A film that has been released mainstream using commercial

methods is ‘ Alice In Wonderland’ (2010) directed by Tim Burton.
This is the film trailer for this Walt Disney produced film, which
represents mainstream methods that have been used:

whereas in contrast to this, this is a trailer for a film ‘Too Cool For
School’ that is an Art house film, created by John Hughes (2007) ,
to represent an Art house film trailer in comparison to mainstream:

This is another website that has most Art house films listed:

Although this is a huge target the quality of our film would have to be improved largely to
create a professional look that could be shown still in art houses but even popular cinema’s,
which would mean we could get a higher budget for different software programs and
equipment to use, so that we could create a successful making of a horror film.
