Dear Parents,

Please see the course choice sheet for 2010-2011:

http://www.woodrowwildcats.org/public_html/attachments/061_WWChoiceSheet10_11.pdf
Beginning March 26, Friday, our counselors are meeting with the freshmen class to discuss course selection for next school year.
It will take two to three weeks to get all students signed up for classes. Please be patient as we go through this process. Students
will use the course selection sheet to declare their choices for next year. Every student is to select a menu of courses that totals
eight periods. Yearlong courses represent one period. Semester courses represent one-half of a period. Parent signature is
required.

Current sophomores and juniors will complete their choice sheets through their English classes starting Thursday, April 1 through
April 9. Since many parents cannot come during the evening hours for parent meetings, counselors are hosting parent information
sessions about course enrollment in the counseling office on the following days and times:
Wednesday, March 31: 8:15-9:15 am and 3:45-4:45 pm
Thursday, April 1 : 8:15-9:15am and 3:45-4:45pm

English teachers will forward the completed course selection sheets to the counselors following their collection on designated
dates. The counselors will then review each student’s submission for errors and/or omissions. Counselors will meet only with those
students about whom they have a scheduling concern. Once the counselor is satisfied with the information on a student’s course
selection sheet, the student’s choices for next year will be entered into our database.

Course selections will determine our staffing assignments, number of teachers, and the master schedule. It is very important that
you discuss the course selections with your child to avoid making changes. We highly discourage course changes as it affects the
entire scheduling process and deadlines.

Changes can only be accommodated for the following reasons:

1. A course was omitted
2. An incorrect course level was scheduled.
3. A student made up a course in summer school and is eligible to add an additional course to his/her schedule.
4. A student has registered for a sequential course but has failed the prerequisite course.
5. Adjustment for college-readiness courses in lieu of regular classes. Eg. taking dual-credit with University and/or DCCCD.

We ask parents to fully cooperate with us during this entire scheduling process. We want to thank you in advance for your
understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Dinnah Escanilla

UNVEILS "TROPHY TIME" (except for the year-end
party).
From Dallas Morning News Education reporters Tawnell Hobbs and Diane Rado:
We encourage thoughtful reader contributions to complement coverage of the Dallas
Independent School District. Last week, we rolled out a list of accolades about the
good work of DISD students. Based on the response, we've decided to do a standing
feature on this blog, titled "Trophy Time: Accolades in DISD." Our goal is to
publish the DISD kudos between Wednesday and Friday of each week. We will
accept DISD-related kudos from teachers, administrators, event and club sponsors
and other formal groups and associations. Parents should ask their child's sponsor or
coordinator to submit information about the award and all DISD students involved
to prevent duplication of submissions. DISD students, teachers, administrators,
support employees and volunteers will be recognized in this feature. Submissions COMPLETE THE
CENSUS FORM
should be as succinct as possible — no three-page press releases, please. Make sure to
include the name, date and brief description of the event; the correct spelling of
honorees; contact numbers and any jpeg photos. Please send the submissions to
thobbs@dallasnews.com and drado@dallasnews.com, with TROPHY TIME in the and
subject line. Some submissions could appear in the newspaper.

SWEENEY TODD CAST ADVANCES TO NEXT LEVEL AT UIL

Congratulations to Woodrow's One Act Play cast of Sweeney Todd for their performance
in the UIL District 12 One Act Play contest advancing to the next level! Congratulations
also for these individual awards: Honorable Mention: Joe Marshall and Kevin Berry
All Star Cast: Justin Bailey, Becky Clegg, Emily Young Best Actor: Kobie Baus
Please come support these kids in this show. It is imperative that we have a big crowd
at the actual performance. The time of the performance will be somewhere between 4:00
and 7:00. The size of the crowd is not supposed to make a difference on advancing
plays, but the more support the actors have the better they do, and judges are
influenced by the kind of support that each show gets. Hillcrest always brings a huge
crowd, so we want to have one too! Go Wildcats!

WILDCAT SOCCER
Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Soccer team who defeated Ennis 2-0, Tuesday
evening in the second round playoffs of UIL Area competition, but lost to Waxahachie
8-0 in the Regional Quarterfinals on Friday. Kudos on a great season leading up to the
playoffs!

BOYS SOCCER
The Varsity Boys Soccer team gave a courageous effort Tuesday to keep the Wildcat
season alive, going up against Red Oak in the Area match of the playoffs, after winning
the Bi-District match against Kimball. Sadly the season ended with a score of 3-0 in Red
Oak's favor. Congratulations to all the players for a great season and thanks to the
coaches, parents and fans that stuck with the boys on all those cold bitter nights.

Special congratulations to the Seniors, you will truly be missed. Some of these seniors
have played together since they were in elementary school: Moises Acosta, Nicholas
Damian, Gilberto Diana, Jesus Hernandez, Michael Kuers, Moses Lopez, Chris
Lynn Damian May, Zach Mazurek, Diego Perez, and Raymond Tovar.
WOODROW ALUM TO COMPETE IN MISS
TEXAS PAGEANT
Jessica Barrera, a 2009 Woodrow Wilson graduate, was crowned Miss Rio Grande Valley and will
go on to compete in Miss Texas which is a scholarship pageant for ladies ages 18-24. There will be
one winner crowned as Miss Texas that will go on to compete in Miss America!! The pageant will
take place at the University of Arlington, Monday-Friday, June 28-July 2. The schedule for Miss
Texas can be found in the link below:
http://misstexas.org/miss/scrapbook/2010dates/2010dates.htm
Jessica competed in many local pageants trying to secure a crown for Miss Texas. Jessica’s first pageant was Miss
White Rock Lake Scholarship Pageant, held at Woodrow Wilson in December 2008, where she won 2nd runner up.
She placed in Miss Irving (1st runner-up), Miss Texarkana (1st runner-up), Miss White Rock Lake (2nd runner-up) and
Miss Dallas (3rd runner-up), and was determined to continue until she was crowned. One more really important
thing, Miss Texas is not a “beauty” pageant. Following is info from the Miss America web-site: The Miss America
Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship
assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made
available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of
young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state
and local competitions as well." In addition, Jessica is looking for several girls ages 6-12 to be her Lone Star
Princesses. This is an opportunity for Jessica to mentor young girls and have them on-stage with her during her
evening gown appearance at Miss Texas. If anyone is interested in being a Lone Star Princess, please contact
Donna Guajardo, 214-213-4774 by March 30. Following is the link with
details: http://misstexas.org/miss/indexmiss.htm Thank you for all the Woodrow Wildcat support!!!!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR JULIETTE FOWLER

From Sophomore Parent Suzanne Chatam: Juliettte Fowler has asked for our help TODAY Monday the 29th of March. They
would like to have us do two things - a group to move furniture and another group to host games and make fruit parfaits with the
residents. This will enable everyone to have a lot of contact with the residents. This will be from 3:45pm - 5:15pm. We will
meet in the same place. If a student has not been there before, they can walk toward Juliette Fowler and I will be available at the
gate to let them in. I will be available by cell phone at 214-215-2436 for more information.

Also, I want to remind everyone that JL Long has tutoring every Saturday from 8:30am - 12:00pm and they are looking for any
willing Woodrow students to help tutor, etc. Ms. Lopez is in charge of it at Long. The number at the school is 972-502-4700. I
will keep log of these hours also. Please let Laura Patterson know at steenpat@sbcglobal.net if you go.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS NEEDED

The Athletic Booster Club is seeking parents of children of all grades in all sports who are interested in
serving with the Booster Club. There are leadership positions that can be filled; or if you have a special
interest we would be interested to hear your thoughts. It's simple and fun. Please contact Greg Hlavaty,
214.828.1278 or 214.507.7036.

ALL SPORTS BANQUET VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

From Kid Adams: I am chairing the All Sports Banquet this year and need your help. The All Sports
Banquet will be on Tuesday, May 11 in the Woodrow cafeteria and I need about 3 people to help
the night of the event and one person to help gather player information for the programs. Please
contact Kim Adams at either kadams@torchmarkcorp.com or cell (972) 832-1066.
