Question 4 and 5

How does your media product represent particular social

groups, Who would be the audience for your media product and
how did you attract/ address your audience?
To attract the target audience, both Mat and I looked into what age group would
want to see this film. I created a target audience profile to learn more about
who would be interested in our film. When we came to audition for actors to be
in our film, we wanted the protagonist to be a male teenager, around the age of
16. We also wanted him to wear casual clothes, like you would on a field trip.

Originally, we wanted the character on a “field trip” to be from London; so we
chose Omena Tayo O' Martins because his accent will work well for the role.
We gave him a wound on his head, and made him appear cold and wet, as
though he had been left there for a long time. His clothes had to be covered in
mud and wet grass, to add to the idea that the man has been abandoned in the
field. We wanted the film to be aimed at the age 15 – 21 age group, both
female and male. If the opening were going to be made as a complete film,
female characters would be included too.

When I let the target audience watch the film, this is what they said:

‘The background sounds and colouring of the film gave it an eerie effect’
‘The mixture of sounds and bird noises go well with the film creating a scary feeling
and anticipation of what will happen next’
‘The scariest bit is at the very end when something was obviously coming up to
attack the actor because you have all ready seen two dead people appear and
disappear. You know that something horrible is going to happen’.

When we came to film our media work, we wanted the audience to view the film as
if he or she was a part of it. We did this by making the camera move around the
actor (staying in the 180 degree rule) as if it was POV (point of view) of a person.
The audience can think that they are a murderer or even a person who has been
kidnapped. When we were filming we wanted to create the same type of feeling the
film “The Blair Witch Project” created.
