Expression of Interest for Independent Reviewer -
ACT Government Campaign Advertising
The ACT Legislative Assembly recently passed the Government Agencies (Campaign
Advertising) Act 2009. The purpose of the Act is to ensure the appropriate use of
public funds for advertising or other communication.
The ACT Government is seeking expressions of interest from a suitably qualified
person to independently review proposed ACT Government advertising campaigns
over $40,000 to ensure they comply with the Act.
The Reviewer will provide limited assurance through inquiry, observation and
analysis of key documents and information that the Act and guidelines have been
adhered to. They will also be required to report bi-annually to the Legislative
Assembly.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience and expertise in one or
more of the following areas:
• communications;
• media and advertising; and
• legal and/or government administration.
The successful candidate will need to have the ability to exercise sound judgement
in the interpretation of the Act and related guidelines.
Remuneration – the successful candidate will be remunerated on a per diem basis,
at a rate to be determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.

Death Cap mushroom season is here again
ACT Health is reminding people to steer clear of the world’s most deadly
mushroom – the Death Cap. All parts of this mushroom are poisonous, and eating
just one mushroom can be fatal.
With the significant risks involved, avoid picking mushrooms yourself, and purchase
them from your local supermarket instead .
The fully-grown Death Cap mushroom cap is silky smooth, and its colour varies from
white to greenish-brown. The gills are white – unlike the pink or brown gills of the
common field mushroom. The Death Cap mushrooms grow mainly near established
oak trees in autumn as the weather becomes cooler.
You should not eat any mushroom unless you can be certain that it’s not poisonous.
Anyone who suspects that they might have eaten Death Cap mushrooms should seek
urgent medical help at hospital emergency departments, or by calling the Poisons
Information Centre on 13 11 26 (24 hours).
Sex industry notice
Some sex workers have been tricked or forced into sex work. Some have no choice
over who they have sex with or what kind of sex work they do. They may not have
access to the same health and safety services or work conditions as other sex workers.

Symptoms of Pandemic H1N1 influenza (swine flu)
Pandemic H1N1 influenza (swine flu) was the most common strain of influenza
in Australia during 2009 and is expected to return for a second wave this year.
Approximately 15 confirmed cases are currently being reported in Australia each
week.
The symptoms of swine flu and seasonal influenza include high temperature; cough;
runny or stuffy nose; sore throat, body aches; head ache; chills; and tiredness. Some
people who have had swine flu have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea.
It is important to keep a close watch on people with influenza and seek medical
attention immediately if you or your family member experience severe flu symptoms.
People with existing chronic medical conditions such as, respiratory disease, diabetes,
obesity, weakened immune systems or pregnant women, are at increased risk of
serious health complications from influenza.
The most effective measure in preventing influenza is vaccination.
