GovernorCuomo,

Lastfall,onVeteransDay,yougaveveteransyourwordthatyouwouldsupporttheVeteransEquality
Actinthisyearsbudget.But,theVeteransEqualityActwasnotincludedinthebudgetyoupresented
lastmonth.NorwasfundingfortheVeteransEqualityActincludedinyourthirtydayamendments.

Inlessthanthreemonths,youbrokethispromisetoNewYorksveterans.Yourrepeatedvetoesofthe
billhavebeenagreatdisservicetoourveterans.Thisbrokenpromiseisworse.

Thebillwouldhavebenefitedthosewhoservedinthepostdrafteraoftheallvolunteermilitary.They
volunteeredtoserveonshipsandingarrisonsathomeandabroadkeepingtheSovietwarmachinein
check,thenmaintainedthepeaceafterwewontheColdWar.Thebillwouldhavealsoencouragedthe
nextgenerationtoservebyremindingthemthattheirstatevaluesandrewardsserviceindefenseofour
nation.

Rightnow,Iraqveteransareeligibletobuybackuptothreeyearsofpensionservicecreditfortheir
timeinthemilitary,butAfghanistanveteransarenteligible.Thatmakesnosense.Itmakesnosense
thatColdWarveteransarenteligible.Itneedstobefixed.

Youpromisedveteransthatyouwouldfixthis.Nowyouhaveto.TheVeteransEqualityActhastobe
includedinthefinalbudget.Thatstherightthingtodoforourveterans.
