    New York State Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - East Fishkill) has written to Governor Cuomo demanding that the governor follow through on his promise to veterans and include the veterans pension buyback expansion in this year's budget. After vetoing the pension buyback bill twice, last Veterans Day the governor promised veterans that it would be included in his new budget. But, it was not in the budget he presented to the legislature last month and it has not been added to the budget yet.

    Lastfall,onVeteransDay,yougaveveteransyourwordthatyouwouldsupporttheVeteransEquality
    Actinthisyearsbudget.But,theVeteransEqualityActwasnotincludedinthebudgetyoupresented
    lastmonth.NorwasfundingfortheVeteransEqualityActincludedinyourthirtydayamendments.

    Inlessthanthreemonths,youbrokethispromisetoNewYorksveterans.Yourrepeatedvetoesofthe
    billhavebeenagreatdisservicetoourveterans.Thisbrokenpromiseisworse.

    Thebillwouldhavebenefitedthosewhoservedinthepostdrafteraoftheallvolunteermilitary.They
    volunteeredtoserveonshipsandingarrisonsathomeandabroadkeepingtheSovietwarmachinein
    check,thenmaintainedthepeaceafterwewontheColdWar.Thebillwouldhavealsoencouragedthe
    nextgenerationtoservebyremindingthemthattheirstatevaluesandrewardsserviceindefenseofour
    nation.

    Rightnow,Iraqveteransareeligibletobuybackuptothreeyearsofpensionservicecreditfortheir
    timeinthemilitary,butAfghanistanveteransarenteligible.Thatmakesnosense.Itmakesnosense
    thatColdWarveteransarenteligible.Itneedstobefixed.

    Youpromisedveteransthatyouwouldfixthis.Nowyouhaveto.TheVeteransEqualityActhastobe
    includedinthefinalbudget.Thatstherightthingtodoforourveterans.
