song was nominated for Record of the Year
at the Grammys and was Billboard 100s
second-biggest single for the year.
Although it was made
before I was born, its
popularity throughout
the 2000s made it a song
I would hear on occa-
sion, whether on the
radio, at a party or some
other social event.
For the first decade of
my life, the song was
not much more than
background noise I would largely ignore,
an insignificant pop song that blended in
with the rest.
For several years now, the song seemed
to have faded away completely. Although
scrub has evolved into derisive term for a
useless or incompetent person in modern
vernacular because of song ultimately
being the story of a womans rejection of
men who try to win her favor despite being
crass and quite pathetic, the song itself
isnt one Ive heard in the cultural hive-
