I am pleased to report that after reviewing the matter with Counsel, we have reversed our position on the issue to the benefit of many of the Roosevelt Island students. We have determined that the students who live on Roosevelt Island and attend school in Manhattan should not be subject to the provision in the Chancellor's Regulations that indicates no contract ‘bus shall operate across borough lines. Please be advised that this does not mean that yellow bus service will be readily available to students who live on Roosevelt Island as they will remain subject to the other provisions in the Chancellor's Regulations. Below are general guidelines that will cover service for students who live on the Island and attend Manhattan schools. ‘+ As we do not bus across district lines, public school students who attend schools outside of Community School District two will not be eligible for general education yellow school bus service. * There are some schools that will be able to get service because they are geographically close to the 59” Street Bridge or the Midtown Tunnel and have more than the minimum number of students to create new service, 1 am pleased fo inform you that the Lower Lab School, based on the information they currently have provided is included in this group. We will be prepared to provide service to the Lower Lab should their enrollment figures not drop. In the event that other schools are interested in such service we would have to explore each request separatelynner ‘Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
