Stewards of God's Creation

God has richly blessed us and the country we live in with an abundance of natural
resources. Unlike the rest of the world, few of us are in need of food or shelter or other basic
necessities. We have not been good stewards of God's gifts. As the world's population
approaches 7 billion, we see greater pressure on the earth and global competition for the earth's
resources. We have been using those resources at a rate that cannot be sustained. We can meet
our own needs today but unless we change, we are compromising the ability of our children and
grandchildren and future generations to meet theirs.

There are things we can do. Christ the King had an energy audit performed by LPEA last
month. As a result of the audit, we will, over time, be replacing many of our T12 fluorescent lights
with T8's which are about 20% more efficient. Check out the new T8 fixtures in the Welcome
Center. We are also considering replacing some of our incandescent lights with compact
fluorescents. We will look at ways to reduce our energy usage in the summer by running the air
conditioning more efficiently.

As an individual or family there are things you can do as well. When you leave a room, turn
out the lights. Consider replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents -- they pay for
themselves in 6 months. Buy food grown locally, or if you can, plant a garden. If you need a new
car, consider buying a more energy efficient model. Drive less, bike or walk more. For more
information, check out the two web sites mentioned at the synod assembly in May: Interfaith
Power and Light (http://www.theregenerationproject.org) or Web of Creation (webofcreation.org).

Become a sustainer.
May God go with you.

July Cottage Meetings – Please Attend One!
For our visioning process, all who attend CtK, members and
nonmembers, are asked to participate in one Cottage Meeting.

A Cottage Meeting is a facilitated discussion held in a CtK’s World

More Cottage Meetings are planned for July. For those who
have not attended one, please do so. A listing of all July Cot-

Welcome Center. Please sign up. We are keeping the Cottage
Meetings to a small size to allow time for everyone to share their
visions, dreams, or plans for CtK about 3-5 years into the future. July 4, 2008
The most successful visions are those with full, Spirit-led congre-

for CtK’s future at one of the Cottage Meetings. If you have any
questions about the Cottage Meetings, please contact Kip

Bear One Another's Burdens

In Galatians 6:2, Jesus asks us to "bear one another's burdens." This
is the central purpose of our Stephen Ministry - to help those amongst us in
their times of need. As we mentioned in our article last month, we know
that summertime can be full of rest and regeneration for some. For others,
this time can cause more stress arising from vacation plans, work, financial
challenges, decisions to be made, etc. And even though most of us believe that Pastor
John's sabbatical is a good thing, this, too, could be causing some people to have some
strong feelings. So what to do?
Know that Pastor Janie is here for us this summer and is a caring, compassionate and
trained pastor. She can listen to your concerns or needs. If you may need support for more
than a few discussions, then you may benefit from learning more about what it means to
have a Stephen Minister. So don't hesitate to contact one of our Stephen Leaders: Carol
Thurman (247-2756) or Jigger or Paul Staby (259-7577).
Also, we ask for your prayers for Michelle Jungerberg, who will be attending Stephen
Leader training from July 13-19. Pray for her safe travel and for her to experience the
amazing energy and learning that takes place when 700 Christians gather for the same pur-
pose: to learn how to lead Stephen Ministry in their own congregations. May Michelle be
filled with the Holy Spirit and return to CtK with energy, ideas and excitement.

Gracious God, we gather here this morning mindful of our family around the world:

† those who awoke hungry this morning and will go to bed hungry tonight,
† those who grieve for a place called home,
† those who are ravaged with the disease and despair of HIV/AIDS,
† those who live in fear of bombs and destruction,
† those who long for a word of hope.

We give thanks for all those who woke this day to feed the hungry and care for those in need.
May your gracious Spirit be active and comforting to all. Open our minds and hearts and
awaken us to your call. In gratitude we pray. Amen

Habitat Update
A big THANK YOU to all of you who contributed to the lunch CtK provided
to the youth group and Care-a-vanners volunteering at the Habitat site in Bay-
field. What an amazing and generous bunch of people attend Ctk! You are al-
ways willing to help out on numerous projects. Again, thank you; more details to follow in the
next issue.
In the meantime, another sign-up sheet will be in the Visitors' Center the end of July. This
will be for the CtK Work Day, August 2, at the Bayfield site. It's too early now to know what ex-
actly we will be doing. But, we need volunteers wanting to do construction work as well as cooks
willing to provide fellow CtKers with our usual home cooked, outstanding lunch! We will either be
carpooling from church, or you can drive yourself. Those living in the Bayfield area may just
want to meet us at the work site.
Listen for further announcements at church, or you can call Rap Dunker at 375-
1690. (Directions and additional details will be provided at a later date.)

Why Should You Make Your Child Go To Church?

This quote was submitted by Mary Butler. I thought it provided
wisdom for all of us in answering this very difficult question that we all
face at some time. Anne Lamott, the author of “Traveling Mercies:
Some Thoughts on Faith” (Anchor, 2000) tells in the following para-
graph why she makes her teenage son go to church.
“I make him go because I can … I outweigh him by nearly 75
pounds. But that is only part of it. The main reason is that I want to
give him what I found in the world, which is to say a path and a little
light to see by. Most of the people I know who have what I want — purpose, heart, balance,
gratitude, joy — are people with a deep sense of spirituality. They are people in community, who
pray, or practice their faith — people banding together to work on themselves and for human
rights. They follow a brighter light than the glimmer of their own candle; they are part of some-
thing beautiful.”
