A monthly account of
Scribe July 2008 ministry & mission
at Christ the King
Lutheran Church.
F ro m t he de sk o f K e n. . .
There are things we can do. Christ the King had an energy audit performed by LPEA last
month. As a result of the audit, we will, over time, be replacing many of our T12 fluorescent lights
with T8's which are about 20% more efficient. Check out the new T8 fixtures in the Welcome
Center. We are also considering replacing some of our incandescent lights with compact
fluorescents. We will look at ways to reduce our energy usage in the summer by running the air
conditioning more efficiently.
As an individual or family there are things you can do as well. When you leave a room, turn
out the lights. Consider replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents -- they pay for
themselves in 6 months. Buy food grown locally, or if you can, plant a garden. If you need a new
car, consider buying a more energy efficient model. Drive less, bike or walk more. For more
information, check out the two web sites mentioned at the synod assembly in May: Interfaith
Power and Light (http://www.theregenerationproject.org) or Web of Creation (webofcreation.org).
Become a sustainer.
May God go with you.

July Cottage Meetings – Please Attend One!
For our visioning process, all who attend CtK, members and
nonmembers, are asked to participate in one Cottage Meeting.
Children’s
A Cottage Meeting is a facilitated discussion held in a CtK’s World
member’s home or backyard, or at CtK with 8-12 people. They
generally run about two hours. At a Cottage Meeting, you hear

and visit about everyone’s Spirit-led visions, dreams, or plans for
the future of CtK and its’ ministries via a questionnaire. By the Children's
end of the meeting, everyone will have filled out the question- World Day

More Cottage Meetings are planned for July. For those who
have not attended one, please do so. A listing of all July Cot-
tage Meeting locations and dates/times are on a table in the
Welcome Center. Please sign up. We are keeping the Cottage
Meetings to a small size to allow time for everyone to share their
visions, dreams, or plans for CtK about 3-5 years into the future. July 4, 2008
The most successful visions are those with full, Spirit-led congre-
gational participation. Please help us by sharing your thoughts
for CtK’s future at one of the Cottage Meetings. If you have any
questions about the Cottage Meetings, please contact Kip
Stransky at 247-8138.

new section. Remember our library is for you!
Gracious God, we gather here this morning mindful of our family around the world:
† those who awoke hungry this morning and will go to bed hungry tonight,
† those who grieve for a place called home,
† those who are ravaged with the disease and despair of HIV/AIDS,
† those who live in fear of bombs and destruction,
† those who long for a word of hope.
We give thanks for all those who woke this day to feed the hungry and care for those in need.
May your gracious Spirit be active and comforting to all. Open our minds and hearts and
awaken us to your call. In gratitude we pray. Amen

Habitat Update
A big THANK YOU to all of you who contributed to the lunch CtK provided
to the youth group and Care-a-vanners volunteering at the Habitat site in Bay-
field. What an amazing and generous bunch of people attend Ctk! You are al-
ways willing to help out on numerous projects. Again, thank you; more details to follow in the
next issue.
In the meantime, another sign-up sheet will be in the Visitors' Center the end of July. This
will be for the CtK Work Day, August 2, at the Bayfield site. It's too early now to know what ex-
actly we will be doing. But, we need volunteers wanting to do construction work as well as cooks
willing to provide fellow CtKers with our usual home cooked, outstanding lunch! We will either be
carpooling from church, or you can drive yourself. Those living in the Bayfield area may just
want to meet us at the work site.
Listen for further announcements at church, or you can call Rap Dunker at 375-
1690. (Directions and additional details will be provided at a later date.)
