Question 1

For our film we wanted to give it a similar look to romantic comedies that are already on the market,
so this included films such as Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and
Sex and the City (2008).

For the titles of our film we have decided to use a simple yet effective look. We didn’t want to use big bold titles
that may take away the focus of our film. We have decided to use a font which is pretty and has a romantic feel
to it as we are producing a Romantic Comedy. As you can see the titles of the film Confessions of a shopaholic
are quite simple and blend in with the film. By looking at these titles that have been used we knew that they had
already worked well in a Romantic Comedy. We have gone for a light shade of pink as we still wanted to make
the title noticeable and are similar to the colours used in the titling of Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Within the film we have produced we wanted to create an office atmosphere that would portray a real life
everyday office. In the film Bridget Jones’s Diary they have re-created an office setting very well and it has come
across as very life like. By looking at this film we were able to see items which we could include in our own film to
enhance the office setting. As you can see we have included a computer and other personal items like the ones
included in Bridget Jones’s Diary, for example photos, folders and articles.
We wanted to give our character a sophisticated style
so we decided to use a costume like those worn in the
films of Confessions of a Shopaholic and Sex and the
City. As you can see we have used a pretty feminine
top which complements the actress’s hair and makes
her look like a sophisticated journalist. It is similar to
the outfit worn by the journalist character Rebecca
Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic.

In the opening of our film we have used tracking shots of our characters desk to show her personality
and to make clear what her job is. This is similar to the tracking shot used in the opening of Confessions
of a Shopaholic which also shows the characters personality. Also, like Confessions of a Shopaholic and
other films by using tracking shots like this we are not giving away what is going to happen throughout
the rest of the film.

To show the audience what our character is writing in our opening we have used a close up of the computer
From our research and planning and viewing other films similar to the genre of our film, many used a backing
screen. This is similar to how Bridget Jones’s Diary has revealed what the character is writing. By doing this it

match the genre of our film. It fitted into the background and the characters movements went along with it as well. It
made our film come across more professional and conventional.
