A fire on July 25 leaves a family of four displaced, but no one was injured. According to authorities, the fire was contained to one apartment unit located in Hunters Crossing in Leesburg. Times-Mirror Staff Photo/Laura Peters
It definitely wasnt Christmas in July for a family of four, when a fire broke out inside its secondstory apartment. The residentstwo adults and two teenagersof a Hunters Crossing apartment were not home when Loudoun County Fire and Rescue responders were dispatched to the apartment complex in Leesburg about 4 p.m. on July 25, after receiving reports of smoke in the hallway of a secondstory apartment. Rescue units also had to force entry into the buildings third-story apartment, but the fire was contained within two rooms of the second-story apartment. No one was reported to be injured in the fire, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Randall Shank. The cause of the fire remains unknown. With the extreme heat during the past week reaching more than 100 degrees in the heat index, according to Shank, the fire call sent out was designated as a hot dispatch. A hot dispatch is issued during a heat index exceeding 90 degrees and warrants extra fire and rescue members to be on-site during an emergencyincluding five fire engines, two ladder trucks, one EMT supervisor, one rescue squad, two battalian chiefs and two medic units. We wanted it to be more scientific, Shank said about using heat index to determine how many units are sent out. We also do it for cold weather, too. Nine rescue members were able to put out the fire within 10 minutes. Hot dispatch protocol requires responders to have their blood pressure, breathing rate and pulse checked after they have responded to a fire on an extreme weather day, Shank said. Each fire truck and vehicle is also stocked with plenty of water and gatorade for every person. The four residents of the home were displaced with the American Red Cross. The cause of fire is still yet to be determined by fire and rescue. Staff Writer Hannah Hager contributed to this article.

15 nothing, I bet there were 150 illegal immigrants crammed into that one bedroom apartment and another two dozen outside waiting to use the toilet.

Dont you mean four families in the apartment instead of a family of four? Thats what might be on the lease, but this whole area of town is full of hispanic immigrants and most live 15+ per apartment so they can send all of their money home. For those that doubt me, take a drive through that area. Just keep your doors locked!
