COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH August 7, 2011 Nineteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

SAN DIEGO

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Saturday, August 13th, 8:45 am-3:30 pm, Daily Chapel
What does one actually do during Adoration? It means that you have some time alone with Jesus to pray your favorite prayers, read the Bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope, charity, thanksgiving, reparation, pray the rosary, or do any type of prayerful devotion that suits you before the Lord. You can just sit and say nothing, simply keeping Him company, just as you would with a dear friend. Take time from your busy schedule for a few precious minutes of quiet conversation with Our Lord.

Pastors Corner ~
FAITH VERSUS FEAR In our spiritual life, faith and fear are two experiences that can make or break us. The leaders chosen by God in the Bible, like Elijah and Peter in todays Word of God, are not exempted from these experiences. There can be the presence of both faith and fear in our life, but the question is, Which of these two dominates us? Our joys, success and fulfillment or our sorrows, failures and discouragement depend most of the time on the answer to this question. Heres a contrast between FAITH AND FEAR: FAITH looks on God who is trustworthy and fulfills His promises; FEAR focuses on imagined and unreal dangers. FAITH guides us and gives us courage to act positively; FAITH controls and paralyzes us and prevents us from being creative; FAITH focuses on solutions; FEAR focuses on problems. FAITH expands our horizon but FEAR limits our world and capacities. In the bible and from the stories of great men and women in history, especially the lives of saints, salvation and victory are connected to the virtue of FAITH while destruction and failure are the lot of those who let FEAR control their lives. We can learn from St. Paul who said, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). Mother of Life ConferenceSaturday, August 13th, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at University of San Diego, Jenny Craig Pavilion. Guests include Fr. Frank Pavone, Edwardo Verastegui, and Dr. Alveda King. Register online at www.motheroflifeconference.com ($45 per person).
