4. Procedures For Equipments: 4.1. Before proceeding to clean any equipment make sure that they are discontinued from the power supply 4.2. For general equipment, depending on the type of equipment and suitability it is recommended to wipe the equipment with 0.1% bleach solution (if the equipment is compatible with bleach) and then with 70% ethanol using paper wipes. 4.3. For specialized equipment like the flow cytometer use recommended cleaning fluids for maintenance and cleaning. 4.4. For freezers first allow them to defrost. Before turning off the power the things inside the freezers need to be changed to another designated freezer. Put on double gloves or use oven gloves for this transfer as the surfaces would be very cold. Clearly label the freezer to which the things have been temporarily transferred and let everyone know about the transfer. For Work Areas: 4.1. For electrophoresis area bench lining need to be changed as and when necessary 4.2. For chemical area the lining paper need to be changed as and when necessary 4.3. Only the sink closer to the fumehood is supposed to be used for washing of laboratory material. The flasks containing bacterial cultures should be added sufficient volumes of bleach and allowed to decontaminate for a proper length of time. These flasks should be promptly removed by the respective users to prevent cluttering of the sink area. All the other items that need to be washed too should be washed promptly and should not be allowed to accumulate in the sink area. Items that are left to dry too should be promptly removed after drying. Sink closer to the entrance is strictly used only for hand washing.
