A car crash on U.S. 15 took an Ashburn womans life about 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 31. Virginia State Trooper C.V. Cooper was helping a portable scales crew weigh a truck on U.S. 15 when he was notified by a motorist that a pick-up truck was driving erratically nearby on the same road. Cooper arrived just south of Route 612, Tail Race Road, when he saw a gray 2008 Chevrolet pick-up truck cross over the southbound lane of U.S. 15 and hit a 2004 Ford van and then hit a 1997 Nissan pick-up truck head-on. According to authorities, the crash happened in the southbound lane and shoulder of U.S. 15. The driver of the Chevrolet truck, Carol R. Wooten, 53, died at the scene and was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. Artuto Pineda, 43 of Brunswick, Md., the driver of the Nissan truck, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford van was not injured, and according to police, both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Cooper and the Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team. The northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 15 were closed to traffic and re-opened about 9:30 a.m.

Tell you what. Ill stop talking about Ken Reid, and his many tickets for speeding and reckless driving, after he resigns from the Leesburg Town Council and moves away - very far away. And, hopefully, hell take his buddy, Tom Dunn, with him.

Thumpers mother, My question is who drives around with empty beer cans in their car? If my nineteen year old had THREE empty beer cans in his/her car, I would be concerned.

Funny, thats just what the news crew called the THREE (3) cans found at my sisters accident: a cooler full of beer. My point, which Im sure you get but choose to ignore, is that speculation may be perfectly natural, but nobody is forcing you to post any of it. The media could also take a moment to correct the story, but then they lose the sensational ratings and whod want to do that?

Thumpers mother, pick-up truck was driving erratically nearby on the same road. Cooper arrived just south of Route 612 Nine out of 10 times the above would mean a drunk driver. The tenth time is usually some medical emergency but its perfectly normal to think drunk driving from the sentence. Btw, its also perfectly natural for the authorities and news to think drunk driving was involved in accident when there is a car full of empty beer cans..

It may be appropriate to speculate that it was about Ken Reid pressuring to have removed comments about his being charged many times with speeding and reckless driving. Political pressure, maybe?

is an interactive, digital replica of the printed newspaper. Open the e-edition now.

Not everyone had insider info or is friend/family. Ive never met a Wooten in my life, yet I still managed not to assume the worst about the deceased. Why? Because in 1993, my then-19 year old sister was accused of underage drunk driving after an early afternoon accident killed her passenger/best friend. The reality was that the empty 3 beer cans (picked up to avoid littering) and 6-pack can cooler ghoulishly shown by the local TV news crew belonged to the 21-year old deceased son of our local sheriff. My sister tested clear of all drugs and alcohol but the media didnt bother to correct their mistake and clear her name. Thats why I refuse to accuse based on early reporting. I stand by my assertion that while you are free to jump to the worst conclusion possible, it is not necessary to post them in a public forum, especially before all the facts are in.

I dont even think that there was any real trolling going on. Alby made a comment about thinking that this was a drunk woman and then family (?) and friends started posting and getting pissed off. Then someone made a stupid remark about ignorant fools or something and in trying to rip Alby actually made a point that supported her drunk statement by saying that the woman had a diabetic problem that can be mistaken for being drunk. (So unless you had some sort of inside knowledge of the medical condition it would be assumed she was drunk since diabetic issues are so common) Other than that it was a pretty normal LTM article

Its really sad that people cant express their opinion without others yelling to delete all the comments This is an open forum and people arent always going to agree. The only time anything should be shut down or deleted is when someone is being abusive or using profanity and then only their post should be removed not all the comments.

Wow, EVERY prior comment has been deleted. Sure, there was some trolling going on, but there was some awfully good dialog, too, and some well-argued criticism.
