THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE ROMAN MISSALPART 4

THE CREED
We believe is now I believe We will now begin the Nicene Creed with I instead of We, so we say, I believe in one God The I believe expresses the faith of the Church personally by each believer. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 167). This is also what we say when we renew our baptismal promises during the Easter season or when we attend a baptism. Each individual answers for himself according to his personal faith. One in being with the Father is now Consubstantial with the Father This new translation reflects more closely the wordings of the bishops of the Council of Nicea in 325 AD who defended the teaching (against Arianism) that Jesus is consubstantial, that is, with the same substance, with the Father. Arius, the heretic, taught that God created the Son and then adopted him and that the Son was from another substance than that of the Father. The truth is, the Son was not created by the Father, but rather He is a distinct divine Person who has existed from all eternity, sharing the same divine nature with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Was born of the Virgin Mary is now Was incarnate of the Virgin Mary The change in this phrase from born to incarnate reflects more accurately the theological truth that the Son of God assumed a human nature in order to accomplish our salvation in it (Catechism of the Catholic Church 461). It is also consistent with the words of St. Johns gospel, The Word became flesh (John 1:14). The Son of God was not just born of the Virgin Mary; he actually took on human flesh.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Saturday, October 8th, 8:45 am-3:30 pm, Daily Chapel
What does one actually do during Adoration? It means that you have some time alone with Jesus to pray your favorite prayers, read the Bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope, charity, thanksgiving, reparation, pray the rosary, or do any type of prayerful devotion that suits you before the Lord. You can just sit and say nothing, simply keeping Him company, just as you would with a dear friend. Take time from your busy schedule for a few precious minutes of quiet conversation with Our Lord.
