There is a very clear rule of thirds here with 99% of the writing being positioned down the left hand side. This will help sell the magazine when it is positioned on a shelf in a shop. Also they style of the magazine is quite blocky and square. This is stereotypical of a mens magazine as female magazines or often quite curvy and swirly. Also in this front cover, the main selling point of the magazine has been clearly identified as the image of Kelly Brook. This is why the text has been thrown to one side and the layout of the text has been kept rather simple to not draw attention away from the cover image. The Colour Scheme that has been used is very clever and looks extremely professional. The use of the orange is significant as the main article is about the desert and a hotness contest. Both could be associated with the colour of orange. Also the black is used to maybe match her outfit or just to clash with the orange. Either way the two colours compliment each other very well and help produce a very sleek finish.

How front covers are conceived and laid out

The design layout of this page is very significant as it features many standard features which a stereotypical layout would contain. For example Kelly Brooks head features in the centre at the top of the article so that it overlaps the title of FHM. She is giving a direct mode of address to the male audience which they would find appealing. All of the titles are down the left hand side which is a great example of the left third idea. It also allows the image to dominate the whole cover. There is an advertisement of one of the featuring articles in the magazine in order to fill the empty space.

How a magazine speaks to its readers

Indirect mode of address can be mysterious, lively, sombre

Direct mode of address can appear in yer face, serious, warm

Creates a wacky, fun image, sharing an identity with the reader that offers the independence of indie music.
