Pastors Corner ~
THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL PART 7 SO WHAT WILL THIS NEW ROMAN MISSAL BRING TO US? Changes and challenges...
Just like any change, there will surely be challenges on the implementation of this new translation. For many years, we were used to responding with familiar words and phrases during the Mass, and now we have to say something different. But this is not the time to complain and lament of the changes, for there are good reasons why we have such things. Our leap of faith on this matter should lead us to a better way of celebrating the Mass which is the Source and Summit of our Christian faith. It may take years before we can truly make our hearts, minds and senses internalize this new translation, but as time goes by, we will slowly come to accept these changes and they become a regular part of our worship and life.

Danke Schoen!
A big thanks to the Mens Club for all their hard work in hosting the Oktoberfest. And thanks to all of you who supported our school by eating bratwurst, buying raffle tickets, drinking beer, and playing darts.

Online Giving
St. Columba Church is now offering online giving for your convenience. We use VANCO Services to process your electronic donations. You will be able to set up automatic or one-time debits from your checking/ savings accounts or use debit and credit cards. You may access the site either through our blog at: http://www.stcolumbachurch.blogspot.com Or through our parish web site at: http://www.stcolumbasandiego.com/index.html

Sacred music will follow the changes...

Together with the new words, phrases and sentences of our prayers and responses, their corresponding musical equivalents will logically follow the new translation and expressions. It was said that we pray and praise twice when we sing, so the choir will also have the challenge of leading the congregation to a meaningful worship enhanced by inspiring and uplifting music patterned after the new translation of the Roman Missal.

Spiritual renewal through the Mass...

The new English translation provides an occasion for us Catholics to reflect on the meaning of the Mass. We have been familiar with the words of the Mass and sometimes we are mechanical in our responses in the Mass. Since the new translation brings us back to the biblical roots and the formal translation of the Mass, we may now enjoy the splendor of the liturgy and ponder on the meaning of what we say and do in the Mass, so that we might grow deeper in our communion with Jesus Christ in every Mass. It is an opportunity for spiritual renewal and catechetical instruction. Through this new translation, we may better understand the Holy Mass and its connection with Gods Word and the historical roots of our worship.

Go Green
St. Columba School has begun a recycling program. Drop off all your empty cans and plastic bottles at the large container near the outdoor lunch area, before or after the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. Sorry, no glass or newspapers accepted at this time.
