Today is the

Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God.

We know that Mary is Jesus mom so why is she called the Mother of God? Remember the trinity? The Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all three persons in one God. That means that we can call Mary the Mother of God or the Mother of Jesus!

There is another part of the Christmas story in the Gospel today. The shepherds went to the manger to see baby Jesus!

In the Gospel today, Jesus gets his name! When the Angel Gabriel told Mary that she would have a baby, he told her to name the baby Jesus. Today, we see Mary give him that name! Ask your mom or dad why you were given your name.
