A DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE FOR LIFE Sunday, January 22, 2012, is the 39th anniversary of the Roe vs Wade and Doe vs Bolton Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion in the U.S. throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Monday, January 23, 2012 has been designated as a special day of prayer and penance by the Catholics Bishops of the United States of America. Heeding the call of Blessed John Paul II on the urgency of offering a special prayer for life (Evangelium Vitae #100), let us do our share in taking care of life in all its forms. This is the greatest gift God has given us here on earth, and we need to hold it sacred all the time. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2012 January 29-February 4, 2012 will be celebrated as Catholic Schools Week. The theme for this years celebration is Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics, Service. The theme represents our priorities in Catholic education. Faith gives us direction and foundation in life; Academics guides us to understanding our world and life; and Service helps us to apply faith and learning in order to help others. St. Columba celebrates this week with the same passion and commitment to form young minds and hearts according to our Christian values, academic excellence and commitment to be of service to others. I sincerely thank our school families, teachers and staff for trying their best to help our school maintain a high standard of learning that we all can be proud of.
