COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH March 4, 2012 Second Sunday of Lent

SAN DIEGO

Remember!
Next weekend Daylight Savings Time begins. Make a note to turn your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night.

Pastors Corner~
TRANSFIGURATION: LOOKING BEYOND SUFFERINGS
The Church encourages us this season of Lent to pray more, do some sacrifices and be more charitable. These are the pillars of our Lenten observance. We know very well that these are rooted and connected to Jesus own prayer and fasting for forty days, in order to prepare for his self-giving mission - to suffer and die for the people He loved. Because of these practices, Lent is commonly perceived as a time of sacrifice and selflessness, connected to Christs own example. No pain, no gain, as we simply put it. The glory and triumph of Christ passes through suffering and death. The transfiguration of Jesus reminds us that suffering is not our destiny. It is just a means to reach our glorious state. Our temporary and earthly sufferings are nothing compared to the glory that is to be revealed in Christ, and his transfiguration is a foretaste of this heavenly glory. This Transfiguration experience gives strength to our faith and hope that God will give us this same destiny and we will have glorified bodies in eternity.

Annual Lenten Collection

Next weekend, has been designated for the 2012 Annual Lenten Collection. Special envelopes will be available for the collection which supports the works of Catholic Relief Services, the Church in Africa and the Church in Latin America. Please prepare to respond generously to this worthy collection.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL

I would like to reiterate the value of our participation in the mission of Christ and the Church through our support of the Annual Catholic Appeal. As we are called to be more charitable during this season of Lent, let us walk the extra mile and do sacrifice by being more generous to our diocesan programs. Your help will be rewarded a hundredfold and you will extend the saving and loving work of Christ to those in need not only of spiritual guidance and nourishment but also material assistance.
