726th Railway Operating Battalion Guy Wooldridge

Guy Wooldridge (April 23, 1920 - September 25, 2011)

Guy Francis Wooldridge, 91, of Champaign passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the C-U Regional Rehab Center in Savoy. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Guy was born on April 23, 1920 in Thomasboro, Illinois to Guy B. and Almeda (Craig) Wooldridge. He married Edith E. Harker on September 2, 1939 in hope, Indiana; she survives. Survivors include daughter; Glenda Manning (Jim), son; John Wooldridge (Karen), grandson; Matt Wooldridge (Renee), two precious great-granddaughters; Makaylee and Makenna Wooldridge, and one granddog; Patsy Manning, all of Champaign. Guy served in the U.S. Army from May 1943 until February 1946. During WWII, he was stationed in India with Company C, 726th Railway Operating Battalion. Guy started working on the railroad in Indianapolis, Indiana. After moving to Urbana in 1949, he continued to work for the Penn Central Railroad (Conrail) until his retirement in 1983. Guy was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the American Legion Post 24 and the V.F.W. Post 630. Guy was a Cubs, Bears and Illini fan and he loved the game of golf. He, his wife and friends took several vacations and ballroom dancing classes together. Guy and Edith were excellent ballroom dancers. Guy was an avid follower of his grandsons baseball career. From grade school, little league, high school, and Legion Post 24 baseball, he rarely missed a game. He dearly loved his family. The light of his life was his two great granddaughters and his granddog. Mr. Wooldridge lived a full life and will be missed by his family and friends
