COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH July 1, 2012 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

SAN DIEGO
We welcome into our Catholic family the following children who were baptized on June 24, 2012: Victoria David-Farinas Elizabeth Mercado Samantha Mercado Nathan Serrano John Temprendola

Pastors Corner ~
FROM THE WORD OF GOD God formed man to be imperishable (First Reading from the Book of Wisdom). This is our sublime identity and destiny. We are citizens of heaven and eternity. In the Gospel, Jesus healed the woman with hemorrhage and raised the daughter of Jairus back to life. Both these readings reveal the divinity of Jesus as the Divine Healer and Lord of Life. He came that we may have life in abundance. He became poor that we may become rich (Second Reading), giving us all the graces we need to become worthy children of God and heirs of his kingdom. ON THE FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM The USCCB recommended to all faithful in this country the fourteen days from June 21- July 4 to be dedicated to the Fortnight for Freedom. The dioceses and parishes are encouraged to highlight the importance of defending religious freedom through organized activities like adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, fasting, prayer, talks on this matter and other related activities. This period would constitute a great national campaign of teaching and witness for religious liberty. This is the Catholic Churchs response to the mandate of the governments Health and Human Science (HHS) department to the religious institutions that violates their sacred teachings and beliefs. The Fortnight for Freedom would want to ensure that this great country and great people would remain to be one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Save the Plants!

Please do not water the plants in the church. We have a team of plant caretakers who tend to them regularly. They report that plants are being overwatered, which brings about mold, rot and gnats. Thank you!
