Resource Sharing Online Resources Companies Increasingly Offer Paid Volunteer Time - Engage companies in your community Volunteer Functions Inventory - Research on why individuals volunteer Volunteer Management Tactics - Best recognition strategies from New Zealand Expanding National Service Opportunities Volunteer Recognition Catholic Charities USA is expanding national recognition of volunteers in the Catholic Charities network. Each issue of Charities USA - the Catholic Charities network magazine will spotlight a volunteer who serves in a capacity related to the theme of the issue. The Winter 2013 theme is serving the vulnerable in life (unborn, terminally ill, frail elderly, severly disabled, etc.) For more information on nominating a volunteer, email Matthew Price. Catholic Charities USA created an award certificate template for agencies to honor volunteers. This award certificate expresses gratitude from CCUSA CEO/President Fr. Larry Snyder on behalf of the entire network. To access the award certificate template, email Matthew Price. Resource Library The resources from the old Catholic Charities USA website have been moved over to a third party website - Scribd. Browse forms, policies and training materials here. Networking

LinkedIn Group - The Management and Administration and Parish Social Ministry Sections are now using LinkedIn Groups to foster member networking. The VMN steering committee is creating a pilot group to check the viability of the platform for our network. If you use LinkedIn daily and would like to be a part of the pilot group, please email Matthew Price. Demographic breakdown - Because the responsibility of volunteer management is not assigned consistently across the network the VMN will develop subgroups. These subgroups will be created so members can better network with those who share similar responsibilities. More details will follow. Professional Development POWR Webinar - August 27, 3 p.m. EDT The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops launched the Parishes Organized to Welcome Refugees (POWR) program, offering $2.2 million to 41 dioceses. Over the past three years about half of Catholic Charities refugee resettlement programs have received funding from the POWR program. At a time when marginalized populations receive more negative press and NGOs find it difficult to recruit volunteers, the USCCBs innovative program has had tremendous success in parish and community volunteer recruitment. This webinar presentation introduces the POWR program, reflects on lessons learned over the past three years, and will provide application information for the next funding cycle. Register. Mentoring & Coffee Break - The VMN Steering Committee is actively pursuing these two initiatives. More details will be made available in October. VMN News Data Survey - The VMN steering committee received requests to assist with data collection. Because the topic is so vast the steering committee has created a survey to gain a better understaning of the actual need. The deadline to complete the survey is August 16. Newsletter changes - Carol 'Spike' Spiker, a member of the steering committee, will be the new point person for the newsletter. Beginning in September, the newsletter will be disseminated on the 15th of each month. If you have articles/information that would benefit the network please send them to Spike. Other News - Catholic Charities USA is hiring an Associate that will work for both the Programs & Services and Mission divisions. For more information about applying, email Matthew Price.
