Major Activities and/or Accomplishments

List and describe those activities (maximum of five) that you think contributed most to the
professionalism of your student chapter and of your student members. Explain the
importance of the activities and indicate which one you feel was the chapter’s most
outstanding event of the school year. You can repeat activities listed in the preceding
tables and/or add new activities.

1. Chapter's Inauguration: This has to be the first in the list. This was one of the
proudest moments for SPERGCE last year and it was the very reason for the momentum
that kept the Chapter on the run. It was also an opportunity to showcase the creative and
organizing skills of the Petroleum Engineering students of the college. This, without
question is the Chapter's most outstanding moment.

2. ADIPEC: The fact that one of our member Mr. Veera Ragava Keshavan (current
President, SPERGCE) was selected to represent the college and India as a whole for
ADIPEC 2008& his sucess as a third place winner for the project just went on to prove that
there is no dearth of talent in the Department. His selection instilled pride among the
members and it also served as an encouragement for other students to develop
themselves in order to strive for higher standards in every front of their career.

3. Field Trips: Two field trips were arranged, one for the juniors and one for the
sophomores. These events hold importance in the sense that they helped the students get
a better understanding of the subjects that were taught in the classroom and bring into
picture a first-hand practical perspective into their studies. This is a direct enhancement
for their professional lives.

4. Project Works: This was mainly concerned with the members from the Final Year.
Project Works, compulsory for the successful completion of the degree programme, were
secured in few companies, which included both NOC(s) and Private companies, located in
different parts of India. This arrangement was made possible by the active support of the
sponsoring section through the Chapter's Liaison Officer. The importance of this can be
understood from the fact that it usually is difficult to get consent from companies for such
kind of requests but SPERGCE lend credibility to those requests and hence helped the
beneficiaries in the successful completion of their degree programme.

5. SPE School: This was an initiative taken by SPERGCE with the aim of developing the
individual by involving him/her in activities related to Techinical ,Communication and
Leadership skills. The objective of the programme falls in line with an expectation that SPE
has of its Chapters that is to develop today's students to become tomorrow’s leaders and
hence its importance is outlined by the efforts of SPERGCE to fulfill this expectation.

Summary

Answer each of the questions below within the limits given. Before you begin this page, you should complete each of the other
pages in this document, then write your summary to help us understand why we should identify your chapter as the most outstanding
in your division. The cells will expand as needed to accommodate your text.

1. What significant contribution do you believe your chapter accomplished last year? (500 words or less)

SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS:
SPE Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering (SPERGCE) has contributed significantly towards the development of the members as well as
non members. First and foremost, SPERGCE is only in its infancy stage, but the impact that the Chapter has effected in and around the
college over the past one year speaks volumes of its achievements.
A major contribution is seen in the establishment of an Industry-Academia relationship. With the support of the sponsoring section,
learning is now enhanced through special lectures from experts and through field visits. This gives a whole new practical perspective to
the knowledge acquiring process which was lacking prior to the establishment of SPERGCE.

SPERGCE has also contributed towards the professional development of its members through lecture series, conferences and seminars
sponsored by its parent section. This has significantly helped the students to keep track of the latest trends followed in the Oil and Gas
Industry.

leadership skills through delivering lectures or through presenting papers. This was done keeping in mind the expectation of SPE from
seen as a major contribution especially as we are living in a period where energy is an indispensable component in the emergence of
its chapters, which is to prepare
India as an economic powerhouse. today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders.
The Chapter has also lived up to its “Go Green!” theme and has always strived to contribute towards the improvement of the society
and the worsening environmental condition. In connection with this, SPERGCE has sincerely stepped up its efforts through the forming
of an Eco Club in the college whose reach is beyond the campus. This is seen as a major contribution towards the making of a greener
and happier society.
Through SPERGCE, the college has been able to promote itself as an energy school. What would have been a hilly task has been
achieved in a short span of time through the global outreach of SPE. This has truly injected a whole new global perspective into the
activities of the Petroleum Engineering students of RGCE.
Last but not the least, and in fact one of the more important contributions of the Chapter has been its successful efforts in promoting
SPE outside of the realm of Petroleum Engineering Department. As an instance to this, it could be noted that SPERGCE has quite a few
members from departments other than the Petroleum Engineering Department. This outlines the success story of SPERGCE and we
strongly stake our claim for the “Best Chapter of the Year” award.

2. What significant challenges did the chapter face last year compared to the prior year, and how did you solve them? (200 words or less)

Challenges and Solutions:

Since we are only in our first year, it is inevitable that we face obstacles. It requires a lot of character and persistence to overcome the
challenges and SPERGCE has shown why it is not lacking on any of these.
First of all there was the issue of organizing and managing members. This includes the challenge of communicating with the members
and meeting their numerous needs. This problem was sorted out by creating awareness about the working of SPERGCE through
brochures and campaigns. Different committees are created to overcome the problem of members’ management. Communication
issues are laid to rest with the creation of the Chapter’s website.

Secondly, there were technically oriented issues. The challenge was to ensure that students and members are enriched with practical
knowledge through interactions with experts from the industry and through field visits. This was solved by establishing a relationship
with companies and with the valuable support from our sponsoring section.
The biggest challenge so far has been in the financial front. Since almost any activity requires funding, it is important to ensure
continuous financial support. To alleviate this task, a nominal monthly membership fee is collected from members and the Chapter is
still seeking for a more substantial solution for this problem.

3. In 25 words or less, write the announcement to tell why your chapter deserves this award. It might say, for example,
"For outstanding efforts to educate the community about the value of the petroleum industryin promoting a healthy
economy."

"For the efficacy with which the Chapter transformed its capabilities into achievements, and dreams into reality".
