      Chapter 1

      I adjust the bill of my ball cap to shield my eyes in such a way that I can continue to observe my new neighbor as he carries box after box up the concrete steps to the second floor of our apartment building.

      As luck would have it, his apartment is the empty one next to mine. I'm pretty sure from my reclining position on the deck chair next to the pool, that he can't tell I'm totally checking out the goods.

      And by that, I'm not referring to his furnishings, which two burly dudes with the truck are struggling to unload from a U-Haul. No, I'm talking about my neighbor himself.
