Severe aplastic anemia is caused by a reduction in the bone marrow's ability to produce blood cells, resulting in low levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets (pancytopenia). This is due to a decrease in pluripotent stem cells and blood-forming cells not being formed or matured properly. Symptoms include dyspnea, headache, blurry vision, and pallor due to reduced red blood cell function and increased serum iron levels.
