Akhtar Naeem Khan Currently working as chairman of Civil Engineering Department, N-W.F.P University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Akhtar Naeem Khan has 22 years of teaching and research experience. He is involved in teaching subjects like finite element methods, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, prestressed concrete/bridge engineering at postgraduate level, and steel structures, structural mechanics, structural analysis at undergraduate level. During this period he has also supervised various research projects at M.Sc and PhD level. Over the last 20 years he remained involved in providing consultancy services to various public, private and government sector organizations in design/construction of roads, high rise buildings, sports stadiums, bridges, subways, interchanges, and canals/hydraulic structures. He also carried out structural health monitoring of bridges, non-destructive testing of old historical building, design of communication towers (space steel structures), and design/construction supervision of steel cranes. He is on the list of approved supervisors for PhD by higher education commission, Pakistan. He successfully supervised the first PhD in civil engineering in Pakistan. He is currently supervising six PhD students in earthquake engineering. He has expertise in bridge engineering, finite element modeling, linear/non-linear dynamic analysis of structures, soil structure interaction, design of steel, pre-stressed, RCC and masonry structures. He is project director of first earthquake engineering centre in Pakistan, a unique research and development facility in the region.
