Rich Carmona is a combat-decorated Special Forces veteran who went to college and medical school on the GI Bill. Carmona grew up in a poor family, was homeless for a time and had little hope for a future. But after serving in Vietnam, Carmona was the first in his family to go to college. Carmona became a trauma surgeon, deputy sheriff and the 17th Surgeon General of the United States. Carmona was nominated by former President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Additionally, Carmona is a former SWAT team leader who has been named National SWAT Officer of the Year and received the national Top Cop award.
