Sheet [5] Journal Bearing

1-

A lightly loaded full journal bearing has a 125 mm length, a 125 mm diameter, a 0.05 mm radial clearance, a speed of rotation of 10 rev/sec and a radial load of 6 KN. For a coefficient of friction of 0.01. Determine the average viscosity of the oil. If the average temperature is 60C. What is the approximate grade of oil being used? (Petroff s low may be used)

2-

A journal bearing has a diameter of 75 mm, a speed of 7 rps and a length of 75 mm. the oil supply is [SAE30] at an inlet temperature of 70C .the bearing carries a radial load of 2.7 KN and has a radial clearance of 35 m. Calculate the heat loss, the side flow, the total flow, the minimum film thickness and the temperature rise.

3-

A guide bearing on a drill press operates under the following conditions: Viscosity: 0.03 Pa.s, shaft diameter: 30 mm, diameteral clearance: 0.05 mm, speed: 10 rev/sec, length: 30 mm, radial load:500 N. Find the power lost in the friction.

4-

A journal bearing operates under the following conditions: Journal diameter: 50 mm, bearing length: 50 mm, radial clearance: 0.025 mm, journal speed: 20 rps, mean oil viscosity: 0.013 pa.s. Determine the load that can be supported by this bearing with a minimum film thickness of 0.005 mm.

5-

A 50 mm diameter bearing is 55 mm long and has a central circumferential groove which is ed by (SAE30) oil at 55 C, the radial

clearance 42 m. the journal speed is 48 rev/sec corresponding to a bearing a bearing load of 10 KN. Find the temperature rise, the low rate and the minimum film thickness.
