NATIONAL GRID CORPORATION OF THE PHILIPPINES

News Release
20 July 2012

NGCP improves power circuit breakers in South Luzon substations As part of its efforts to expand and modernize its power transmission facilities, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is replacing old power circuit breakers in substations. Labo Substation in Camarines Norte and Gumaca Substation in Quezon are just two of the many substations undertaking the nationwide power circuit breakers modernization and replacement project. As the power demand continues to grow, old power circuit breakers no longer have the technical capacity to efficiently respond to system disturbances in the power network. Moreover, outmoded power circuit breakers are difficult to maintain due to diminishing supply of spare parts in the market. The project worth Seventy Three Million Pesos (Php73 M) for both the Labo and Gumaca substations -- includes the supply and installation of four (4) and two (2) 230-kiloVolt (kV) power circuit breakers, respectively. Work on the project commenced in August 2010 and is expected to be finished in the fourth quarter of the year. NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countrys power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through power superhighways that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets. NGCPs regular maintenance activities and expansion projects aim to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers. ### (Photos on the next page)
