NATIONAL GRID CORPORATION OF THE PHILIPPINES

News Release
20 July 2012

NGCP expands Tayabas Substation To allow all possible generation dispatch scenarios for the power plants in Quezon and the Bicol region, NGCP is expanding the capacity of its Tayabas Extra High Voltage (EHV) Substation. The expansion involves the installation of additional 600 megavolt amperes (MVA) 500/230 kilovolts (KV) transformer and the improvement of the 500 KV power circuit breakers and substation accessories control, protection and communication system. Installation of equipment will ensure efficient, stable and reliable delivery of electrical power to the load center. Likewise, installation of additional capacity in the substation would help maintain the provision for N-1 contingency at the Tayabas EHV Substation. N-1 contingency enables the power grid to sustain its integrity in case of a loss of a major component of the system. The project worth Two Hundred Ninety Five Million Pesos (Php295 M) started in June 2011 and is expected to be finished during the last quarter of 2012. NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countrys power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through power superhighways that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets. NGCPs regular maintenance activities and expansion projects aim to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers. ### (Photos on the next page)
