Debriefing Thank you for participating in our Signal Detection experiment.

The purpose of this study is to determine the perceptual sensitivity of a person to an auditory stimulus, in the form of a babys cries, masked amidst three other auditory stimuli which take the form of common household noise, such as a ringing phone, a running faucet and a doorbell. As the researchers for the present study, we also wanted to find out if there are any significant differences between the sensitivity we measured for males compared to the sensitivity of females. Because of various studies and literature in the area of maternal instinct and behavior, the researchers hypothesized that females would perform better than males in this experiment.
