Design Considerations

The design consideration is holistic.


It covers all possible data sources for designing the data warehouse with all possible components as part of a single complex system to meet all possible user requirements. Any failure in this regard affect the design of the data warehouse. Web enablement may enhance the data accessibility and its usage.

Issues
Heterogeneity of data sources Reliability Authenticity. Data may be old or historical Tendency of the data warehouse to grow very large. Decision by the designer to limit the size of data warehouse by selecting appropriate data.

How data warehouse is different from from regular OLTP.


Data warehouse design is business driven. OLTP is data driven. Data warehouse driven depends on the business requirements to solve the pitfalls of the particular business.
