    Make a detailed report on various surface modification techniques, with a special emphasis on commercially useful techniques, having potential for future applications. Discuss their classification, principles, technology and specific industrial applications. Make a comparative study of various attributes of these techniques. Try to identify research gaps in the area where further R & D inputs can be devoted to. This part shall carry significant weightage. The gaps should be supported with the help of literature survey. The report should include some latest developments in the area, along with fundamental information on the subject matter. The report should be research intensive and based upon information from multiple references such as books, journals and technical reports. The report should be made with proper referencing of the books and journals referred to for the purpose. Last date for submission is November 21, 2011 Suggestion The students may divide the work into parts, and prepare a sub-report on that particular portion. Subsequently, all the sub-reports may be merged to prepare a consolidated report on the area.
