Monday, January 30 2012 Basketball Skills: Dribbling and passing

Standard: Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. Describe critical elements of correct movement pattern for all fundamental (basic) movement skills. Apply the concept of practice to improve skills in appropriate settings. Analyze the performance of others to provide positive feedback to help improve performance. Recognize and describe critical elements of more complex movement patterns. Materials: Basketballs, cones Lesson: The class will be instructed on the correct way to dribble a basketball -keep ball below waist -do not slap ball with hand -use fingertips to guide ball down -keep your head up, dont look down The class will be given instructions on crossing over to their non dominant hand while dribbling -push ball between your feet and side step to change hands -keep the dribble alive -if you need to look down during cross over it is OK The class will be instructed on a bounce pass -hold the ball with both hands at your chest -with force bounce pass the ball to the next student Activity: 1. The students will be put into 3 groups and weave around the cones across the gym while dribbling a basketball. 2. They will cross over at each cone. They will begin with their dominant hand. 3. They will add the bounce pass to the next student in line.
