Plan

1. Anticipatory Set: The students will begin the lesson by counting 1- 100 with the teacher. They will already know their numbers 1-100; they will learn how to count by tens. 2. The teacher will hook the students by grouping them in two sets of ten, and the teacher will say ten. (while pointing to one group) and twenty (while pointing to the other group. She will explain to them that they counted by tens and then show them (by counting by ones, that there really are 20 of them). The teacher will then have them sit on their special seats and teach them to count by tens in a song. 3. The students will then be put into pairs so they can bundle the popsicle sticks into groups of ten 4. The teacher will be walking around assessing the students to make sure they understand the concept and show them the pattern of counting by tens. 5. The class will come back together to review counting by tens and do a Around the Classroom counting by tens activity.
