DEPATMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Unit Test - I Refrigeration & Air-Condition Time :- 01 Hour Max.marks :-25 Q.1 A UNIT-I A boot strap cooling system of 10 TR capacity is used in aeroplane. Ambient air temperature and pressure are 200 C and 0.85 Bar respectively. The pressure of air increases from 0.85 Bar to 1 Bar due ramming action of air. The pressure of air discharge from a main compressor is 3 Bar. The discharge pressure of air from auxiliary compressor is 4 Bar. The isentropic efficiency of each compressor is 80 % , while that of the turbine is 85 % . 50 % of the enthalpy of air discharge from main compressor is removed in the first heat exchanger & 30 % enthalpy of air discharge from the auxiliary is removed in second heat exchanger. Assume ramming action to be isentropic , the required cabin pressure of 0.9 bar and temperature of air leaving the cabin not more than 200 C . Find COP of the system and power required to operate the system. OR In 15 TR ammonia refrigeration plant , the condensation is 250 C and evaporating temperature -100 C. The refrigerant ammonia is sub cooled by 50C before passing through the throttling valve . Vapour leaving the evaporator is 0.97 dry. Find COP & power required. Used following properties of ammonia
Temp. T0 C (hf) KJ/kg hg KJ/kg Sf KJ/kg K Sg KJ/kg K Cp Liquid KJ/kg K Cp Vapour KJ/kg K
