Capul is an island town strategically located at the entrance of the most treacherous channel in the Philippines, the San Bernardino Strait. Located in the northwestern section of Samar island, it is 45 minutes away by motor boat off the coast of Allen, Northern Samar and an hour boat ride from Matnog, Sorsogon. It has a population of more than 13,000 people mainly subsisting on the bounties of the land and sea. Although the island is rich in natural resources, it is still poverty stricken due to several factors such as seasonality, lack of employment, low productivity, and many other economic problems. Despite these setbacks, a glimmer of hope arises when the Department of Tourism and the National Historical Commission recognized the island towns tangible and non-tangible tourism assets that would make the area as one of the regions premier tourist destinations. Capuleos are fun-loving people, and is a clear reflection on how they celebrate their annual town fiesta. This year, in order to put up a fund to attract local and foreign tourists, Capuleos residing in Metro Manila and nearby provinces will hold a pre-fiesta celebration which is a SACRIFICIAL DINNER at the Corniche Restaurant, Diamond Hotel Lobby, Malate, Manila on July 21, 2012 (Saturday) at 7:00 p.m. Organizers for the said event are Judge Alfredo Ampuan, Mr. Benedict Leong, Mrs. Josephine Leong, Mrs. Lourdes Tsumura, Mr. Julian Ortego,and yours truly.
