Stephen Ross Chief Executive Officer The Related Companies 60 Columbus Circle New York, NY 10023 August 6, 2012

Dear Mr. Ross: In a recent Daily News article about the community concerns over Walmart trying to gain entry at the Willets Point development in Queens, one spokesperson affiliated with your company stated, We have not had any talks with Walmart and we have absolutely no intention of discussing this site with them. We are more concerned than ever about your plans for development at the East New York Gateway II development site. One of the concerns we have consistently raised is our fear that you are reportedly helping Walmart enter New York City via the Gateway II development site since we have not been able to get the same assurances as in the aforementioned reference from you about the development in our community. In East New York, Brooklyn, you have ignored intense opposition to Walmart and have refused to attend meetings with our community board and elected officials since having received the zoning changes you sought for that development. As the CEO of the largest developer in our city, you can show tremendous leadership by saying no to Walmart at East New York as you have done in Queens and yes to partnerships that serve the needs, interests, people, and diverse marketplace of our communities and others within which you develop. So we hereby request that you: Pledge that you have no intention of bringing Walmart to the Gateway II development in East New York Meet with East New York residents, community board members and elected officials forum to share your plans and engage in a dialogue with the community about the future of Gateway II.

We deserve the same respect in East New York that you have shown to other communities within which you have developments, and we will expect a prompt response to our request. Thank you, Hon. Inez Barron, Assemblymember, District 40 Hon. Charles Barron, Councilmember, District 42

Hon. Erik Martin Dilan, Councilmember, District 37 Hon. Letitia James, Councilmember, District 35 Nathan Bradley, Chairman, Brooklyn Community Board 5
